A native of Indiana, Dr. Shortz received his surgical residency training at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Shortz is a member of several societies, including American Association of Neurological Surgeons, North American Spine Society, American College of Surgeons, California Association of Neurological Surgeons, California Medical Association, Alameda-Contra Costa County Medical Association, and California Society of Industrial Medicine and Surgery.

Dr. Shortz offers state of the art diagnostic and treatment modalities, including in-house fluroscopically guided injections, physical therapy, functional capacity evaluations, EMG and NCV studies, and minimally invasive through complex reconstructive spinal surgery.
